A New Chapter for Rare Camo: MRacky & Dubaky BDUs Drop Next Week 🔥

I’ve spent years scouring surplus depots, private collections, and the deepest corners of the internet for patterns most people have never even heard of. That hunt turned into Contraband Kansepts, and—thanks to the phenomenal camo archivist P33ndragon—today it levels up.

Why We’re Doing This

Preservation over destruction

  • Too many historic garments get torn apart for runway fodder. We’d rather recreate the patterns and keep the originals where they belong, preserved for future generations.

Tech-driven accuracy

My background in computer science and computational photography started with ripping camo textures for video-game mods. And my desire to annoy teammates by wearing tigerstripe in game instead of MultiMarTarnFlage 81.  The same workflow now lets us capture, color-correct, and tile rare patterns down to the thread count.

Affordability without compromise

This single MRacky jacket (the one that started all this) cost more than a month’s rent. Most collectors nod in painful agreement. And while I have this amazing piece in my collection, I also got a man-shaped indent on my couch after my wife found the receipt. Re-issuing the fabric in bulk drives the price back to earth so you can actually wear the stuff without being afraid of a waiter with a glass of wine.  This also gives us a chance to play around with additional colorways, and display some combinations that have not been seen before.

Fire/Autumn Mracky(top), Pastel Pop Mracky (Bottom)

Ok this is a goofy example and probably not something we would make(unless you guys want us to 👀👀👀)

Here’s the bit you all probably came here for.

The Road Ahead

Peadot Obscura Parkas Are on Deck

The darker-toned Peadot Obscura mock-up caught everyone’s eye, so here’s where we stand:

  • Made in the USA – We’re finalizing terms with a stateside mill that can both weave heavyweight cotton-sateen and cut/sew the garments under one roof. Domestic production means tighter QC and faster turnarounds once we hit “go.”

  • Respect for the originals – Vintage pea-dot parkas are still out there, intact and collectible; we’re not carving those up or trash-talking them.  Hell we love ours!

  •  We’re recreating the fabric from scratch so enthusiasts can run the pattern guilt-free while the antiques stay preserved.

  • True-to-form build – Draw-cord waist, fishtail back, scalloped hem—basically the 1950s silhouette minus 70 years of fading.

  • Timeline – Fabric samples have been ordered to nail down the color.

Gear Spotlight — Test-Runs & Future Collabs

1. Gorka 3 Suit – B.U.S.H. Team

We’ve teamed with B.U.S.H. Team for a small pilot run of their classic Gorka 3. Nothing wild—just a single set so the community can get an idea of what a gorka might look like with Dubaky on it.  We might look at a bigger run of these if we see enough interest for a  Contraband version.  Watch @p33ndragon for picture updates on that guy.

2. Boreal Wool Anorak – Lester River Bushcraft

Same approach here: we are also collaborating with LRB for a one off anorak. Straight from Minnesota so we can gauge demand and gather feedback on potential camo-print or design collabs down the road.

Bottom line: These aren’t full launches—just feeler projects. If you want to see Gorka or anorak variants in Contraband patterns, let us know once we get the photos out and we can see about getting this out to everyone for purchase.

What’s Next

June 23 @ 12 PM ET

MRacky & Dubaky BDU sets go live ($220, standard sizing, cancel any time before ship).

Late Summer

Peadot Obscura parkas move to pre-order once we have our first prototype in hand and QC is complete.

Ongoing

Watch #p33ndragonxcontrabandkansepts for first-look impressions on the Gorka 3 suit and the LRB anorak.

This first BDU run is proof of concept: show that rare patterns can be recreated faithfully, at scale, and without gouging the community. Once we clear production and fulfillment, we’ll add more patterns to the rotation and shift from limited drops to in-stock availability.

If you’re as tired as I am of watching history get shredded for clout, join us next Monday. Let’s keep these patterns alive—and wearable.

See you at 12 PM ET on the 23rd 🫡
